The Durham Bowls competition is an initiative that pairs Durham Public School Cafeteria Managers and local Durham restaurant chefs. Several new dishes have been introduced at school lunch so far this school year. April’s Durham Bowls dish will be Thai Chicken and Curried Vegetables with Coconut Rice, a collaboration between DPS’s Ms. Vilma Forrester and Chef John Eisensmith.

Let’s get to know our cafeteria staff at Hillside!

I spoke with Paul Johnson. Paul Johnson is a cafeteria worker. Cafeteria worker was a big guy and with nice hair.

His favorite food to cook at home is pho. And his favorite food to cook at school is waffles.

We also talked to Paul Johnson about some changes he would make on the school menu. One of them was food waste It looks like he wants to cut down all the food that is getting thrown in the trash.

It was a nice talk with Paul Johnson because I learned about all the food the gets wasted.

We should stop the food waste and give it to people who need the food.
