Raleigh Firebirds Event

On Saturday, February 23, Hillside Junior Lakiya Samuel will attend a press conference for Raleigh's professional basketball team, The Firebirds. Lakiya has been doing a bit of research on this young professional team.

The Firebirds basketball season this year has been going on since November. The Raleigh team has lost eleven games and won thirteen. The Firebirds don’t have bad stats, but their record is probably not where they want it to be.

These teams in this basketball association travel all around. For example, they have played the St. Thomas Aquinas from Sparkill, NY. This NY team has won 19 games and lost 5 and they beat the firebirds by 26 points this year on January 2nd.

The firebirds have two spotlight players. On the men's team is Juanye Colon, and for the women's they have Maya Thomas.

Colon is from Acworth,GA and his position is a guard. Thomas is from Freeport,NY and her position is a guard.

The men's head basketball coach is Mike Riley he has been apart of this team since june 11th, 2013. There are two assistant coaches which are Anthony Lati and Terrell Stokes. Lati and Stokes have been apart of this team since 2009.
